Sometimes certain habits are detrimental to general health and we don’t realize it. This is also true for eye health! We offer you a series of tips and guidelines to improve children’s vision at a key stage of their development and learning.

Errors For Children’s Vision

  • Not spending enough hours abroad: a sedentary lifestyle is detrimental to the health of children in general. In addition, for visual health it is also important to carry out activities outdoors. It is recommended to enjoy two hours a day of exercise, walks, activities outside the home to try to stop the increase in myopia.
  • Force the visual system with the intensive use of near vision: our eyes are not prepared to look closely for too long, so it is recommended to follow the 20-20-20 rule (rest your vision every 20 minutes for 20 seconds and looked at least 20 feet). And, of course, go outside to play as we have already discussed!
  • The excessive use of digital displays : it is necessary to limit the time children spend with electronic devices. It is advised by the WHO for children to spend less than nine hours on a screen daily.  According to a study carried out by various renowned optometrists and the kraff eye institute, one in three children uses the mobile phone more than twice the time recommended by the WHO. Remember that children under two should not use electronic screens!
  • Use the mobile before bedtime: remember that looking at the mobile in the dark is detrimental to children’s vision and can alter their circadian rhythms.
  • Do not perform visual checks: many times, children adapt and we do not detect that they have a visual problem. Also, many parents and teachers are unaware of the symptoms that may be indicating that the child has poor vision. One in three cases of school failure may be due to poor vision! And the data indicates that six out of ten children detected a visual problem themselves.
  • Do not apply the rules of visual hygiene: the posture must be monitored, that it is straight with the body erect, the adequate lighting and without reflections with both eyes at the same distance from the task and without twisting the head, the distance with the book or device of at least 50 centimeters, the height of the table or how the feet are placed, which must rest on the floor. They will allow the child to achieve greater visual efficiency with less effort.
