Is Dysport More Than A Beauty Aid?

132 0

It’s the question that everyone asks themselves. They know that products like Dysport and Botox are most popular as something that celebrities use and endorse, but what does it do and is getting rid of a wrinkle the only thing that it does?

The short answer is yes, it does more than just that and this drug actually started out for medical uses. Dysport actually stops a neurotransmitter from arriving at certain nerve endings, effectively “freezing” the area. That is a bit of a misnomer, though, as anyone who gets Dysport will tell you that they can still feel sensations on the skin in that area.

Here are the medical uses for Dysport:

Muscle Spasms and other muscle related disorders – This is one of the major ones. People can have neurological and other impairments that can cause sudden and, at times, violent muscles spasms. This can be agony for the person affected and can be dangerous for the friends, family, and even coworkers around them. How can a muscle spasm be an issue for someone else? A person with an involuntary spasm can kick, punch, or elbow a person close by, and spasms can also affect other areas of the body in negative ways. One solution is to deaden those affected areas, and voila, no more spasms!

Migraine – First of all, realize that a migraine isn’t a headache. A lot of people think it is, and will even claim to have one, but this is actually a serious medical problem. A symptom of a migraine is a headache, but it isn’t just a headache. People with chronic migraines can have symptoms including severe body pain, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, vision problems, and even yes, headaches. So, the next time someone around you claims to be having a migraine, ask them if they were diagnosed! For migraine sufferers who have tried other medical treatments, this same deadening of those nerves that cause the migraine is a godsend. As a result, this form of treatment was approved in 2010 for migraine sufferers.

Excessive Sweating – A surprising entry here, yes, but 2.8% of the population actually suffer from this. The technical term is Hyperhidrosis. This involves a person who sweats to a degree that is beyond that of a normal person, and no, you don’t have Hyperhidrosis on a hot day! The reason for excessive sweating is one that goes beyond heat, but involves a person sweating all, or nearly, all the time. This isn’t just a medical condition that results in dehydration, but affects a person mentally, socially, and psychologically. No one wants to be known as “Sweaty Sally” or “Stinky Sam”. Having this condition can be more than a little embarrassing. It’s Dysport that was proven to deaden the required areas when injected between layers of the skin.

So, is Dysport just a way to look young and healthy? It is quite effective in that area, as well, but as we’ve just seen it has many uses, just a few of which we have outlined here.
